Start Your Consoles & Roll Out

Written by GL

It's fairly easy to guess that following the release of the highly anticipated movie, Transformers: The Game was bound to show up on the radar. Set for release on the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii consoles and PCs across the globe, Transformers: The Game is directly based on the 2007 movie. Two games entitled Autobots and Decepticons are also to be available on the Nintendo DS.

Activision and Traveller's Tales are currently developing the game, which allows people to play as either one of nine Autobot or Decepticons in different stories depending on the side they choose, including characters that are not in the film. The PSP edition allows 20 playable characters.

The gameplay consists of free roaming action adventure which will include (in no particular order) racing, flying, combat, shooting and exploration - which means hours of super-fun destruction and running around. The DS version can offer co-operative play and the PSP edition offers 4 player play.

The team behind Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is creating the cut scenes and it features much Generation One related unlockable stuff, so it should be a good show.

You can play as the humans:
  • Sam Witwicky
  • Mikaela
  • The 3 Air Force airmen (The ones who get attacked by Scorponok)
Or, you might choose an Autobot:
  • Optimus Prime
  • Bumblebee
  • Jazz
  • Ironhide
Or, if you have a mean streak, play as a Decepticon:
  • Megatron
  • Starscream
  • Barricade
  • Bonecrusher
  • Scorponok
Other Transformers from the movie, mostly Decepticons will appear as bosses in the game like Blackout, Brawl & Frenzy. Some playable characters in the game will be bosses first before you unlock them as playable characters. Other Transformers from the comics & cartoons also appear as bosses:
  • Soundwave with Ravage, Laserbeak & Rumble
  • Thundercracker, Skywarp & Thrust
  • Scourge
  • Blitzwing
  • Shockwave
  • Sixshot
  • Cyclonus
  • Devastator (5 of the Constructicons)
It sound like an awesome game; and lets just hope its a heck of alot better than the last Transformers game, which made so little impact, it should have been a cooking show.
